From UFO’s to the Gospel

From UFO’s to the Gospel

While walking through a local grocery store, something unexpected happened. As I pushed my shopping cart down the aisle, I noticed an elderly man gently leaning on it. After a few seconds he apologized.

I’m sorry,” he said. “From time to time I get dizzy, so I thought your cart might help me keep my balance.

To be honest, I immediately felt compassion for this gentleman. We started talking, and soon I discovered that he had worked as a postman. When I mentioned that I had also done that job for a few years, we instantly felt a connection. Although he had always been quite healthy, this dizziness had suddenly appeared and had been bothering him for a couple of years.

In the back of my mind I began to pray: Holy Spirit, give me an opportunity to share about Jesus.

At that same moment he asked me what kind of work I do now. When I told him that I am an evangelist, he suddenly—almost out of nowhere—said that he had seen UFO’s in the past.

At that moment I had two options: either dismiss him as a lunatic or use his comment as an opportunity.

So I said, “That’s interesting. Sometimes when people see UFO’s, they may actually be seeing things others cannot see with their natural eyes. Moments like the ones you describe might give a glimpse into the supernatural dimension. After all, there is more between heaven and earth than we can normally see.”

To my surprise he responded by saying he had grown up Catholic.

In the Bible some prophets also saw strange things,” he added.

That was my open door.

Sir,” I said, “since you know stories from the Bible, can I encourage you to read chapter 3 of the Gospel of John? In that chapter someone secretly approaches Jesus because he has questions about who God really is. When people step into the supernatural realm, they can encounter many ‘gods,’ but there is only one true God who gives life. And it is through Jesus that we can truly come to know Him.

As we said goodbye, I knew deep in my heart that the Holy Spirit had arranged this encounter.

This may not be the typical evangelist story about salvation or healing, but I believe God is still working on this man’s heart. Maybe I will meet him again. Or maybe someone else will continue the conversation.

Either way, I am reminded once again that God has prepared good works for us beforehand.

All we have to do is step into them.

Are you willing to be interrupted during your day and take part in the harvest?
