Saying “Hi” Can Change Everything

Saying “Hi” Can Change Everything

Sometimes we think sharing God’s love has to be complicated or bold in an extraordinary way. Yet this blog comes straight from my journal as I attended a Power and Love conference in 2018.

During those days, I was reminded again how powerful simple availability can be.

A Divine Appointment in Zeewolde

A Conversation by the Waterfront

During our first outreach, I sat down next to a lady at the waterfront in a town called Zeewolde. Noticing that she was writing postcards, I asked if she was spending her vacation in the area. She replied that she was staying there for a while.

When the conversation turned around and she asked if I was from the area, I explained that I was visiting a conference nearby. As we continued talking, I shared testimonies of what God had done in my life.

“I Am a Mystery Guest”

At one point, she asked if I had ever experienced God’s power in my life. Without hesitation, I said yes.

Her response completely surprised me.
“Okay, that’s nice… I am a mystery guest.”

My first thought was: What kind of cult is called ‘mystery guest’?

Then it clicked — I had just met a fellow Spirit-filled believer.

She went on to explain that she had been writing a postcard to her niece, who was going through a very difficult time. In fact, she had asked God to meet fellow believers so they could pray together about the situation.

Ministry in the Open Air

Because of this shared faith, I invited two other people from my outreach team — who had been watching us from a distance — to join us. Together, we spent time praying and ministering.

It was a powerful and unmistakably divine moment. God had clearly arranged this encounter.

Love in a Grocery Store

Coffee, Testimonies, and Encouragement

Afterward, we decided to stop by a grocery store to buy some soda. Inside the store, there was a coffee corner where customers could enjoy free coffee as a service.

After grabbing some coffee, we began sharing God’s love with an elderly couple. Before long, other elderly people joined us as well. Each of us had the opportunity to share testimonies of what God had done in our lives.

What started as a simple coffee break turned into a beautiful moment of encouragement, connection, and testifying of God’s love — right in the middle of a grocery store.

An Evening in Harderwijk

A Search for Peace

Later that evening, we went to a town called Harderwijk. One of the guys in our group began a conversation with a man from Morocco. Watching from a distance, I could see that it was a good and meaningful exchange, and it appeared that my friend was sharing about his relationship with Jesus.

At a certain moment, I felt prompted to join them.

A Word of Knowledge

Normally, I would listen first before stepping into the conversation. This time, however, I sensed a clear impression to share a word of knowledge.

After introducing myself, I explained that I didn’t know what they had talked about, but that I felt he was searching for peace in his life.

That immediately resonated with him. He shared that this was exactly what they had been discussing. As a matter of fact, he had been riding his bicycle for quite some time just to get to this place — simply to sit down and find relief from the stress at home.

Introducing the God of Abraham

From there, I shared that the God of Abraham is a holy God, but also a God who desires a personal relationship with us. I explained that my insight into his situation was an invitation from God to know Him personally.

At that point, I spoke briefly about Psalm 139 and how God has good thoughts concerning his life.

I then asked if he would like to experience the peace that only God can provide.

He said yes.

Sowing a Seed of Peace

When I asked if I could pray for him, he said it was time for him to leave. Understanding this, I asked if I could bless him instead. He agreed.

So I prayed and released the peace of Christ over his life.

We were deeply grateful that we were able to sow a seed of hope in this man’s life.

The Simplicity of Availability

All We Did Was Say “Hi”

On our way back to the conference, the others were beyond excited. They couldn’t believe how easy it was to share God’s love with people.

All we did was say,
“Hi, how are you doing?”

Once again, God moved powerfully — simply because we were willing to be available.
